Free Worm Composting Workshop and "Meet & Greet" with Shadow the Goat with Kathleen Blackistone of Moonwater Farm this weekend!

Sat 4/29 10:30 Meet & Greet with our Goat Friend Shadow! Sat 4/29 11:00 Worm Composting Workshop

Saturday 4/29 10:30 AM Meet & Greet 'Shadow' the Goat!

This Saturday, we'll have Shadow the Goat here at FES! He's a contributing resident at Moonwater Farm, where he is an important part of their "closed loop" permaculture system. Come meet Shadow and snuggle up to his fuzzy goodness, as well as learn how goats are beneficial to a homestead or urban farm. Plus goats are just plain wonderful in general.  See you there!

Saturday 4/29 11:00 AM Free Worm Composting Workshop!

Shortly after our goatlove moment, we'll have Kathleen Blackistone of Moonwater Farm teach us about worm composting, as well as give us a demo of how to create our own easy DIY worm bin.  Bring your own small container with a lid, and start converting kitchen waste (did you know that nearly 1/3 of our food waste ends up in the trash?) into garden gold! Vermicomposting helps to move us towards a zero-waste future, reduces landfill waste, and creates a nutrient-dense soil amendment that increases soil moisture retention and yields healthy, happy plants.  It is also an easy way to compost for small space gardens. Bring pen and paper and see you there!

Kathleen Blakistone is an LA certified master gardener In 2011, she and her partner purchased a property in Richland Farms, Compton and rehabilitated the homestead using permaculture techniques. Today they have a thriving microfarm, Moonwater Farm, where they grow food and raise livestock which includes goats, chickens and horses. The Farm has been created as a community space that hosts workshops, Farm Camp, fundraisers and student field trips. Moonwater Farm seeks to engage with residents of South Los Angeles in conversations about healthy eating, sustainability and growing chemical free food.
